SKETCHES

My Frantic Love Affair with Pen, Pencil and Paper

The sketches and paintings that are posted here is a collection of my work over the years. some are commissioned jobs some are just plain doodling whenever boredom hits a nerve. some mundane burst or creative spew in a frantic love affair with pen, pencil and paper.

I learn how to draw when I was five years old. i remember pulling the inner tube of a ball point pen and discarding its broken body and eagerly holding the thin skeleton of the instrument baring all it's ink just trying to copy a comic strip (sgt. Bailey) in a comic page of a Sunday Newspaper.

Years later I  found myself travelling 5 kilometers by foot just to visit the PhilTrade Center where artists and little museums can be found. I spent my whole day just staring to some old artists'  painting and making their living, I didn't even have the nerve to ask questions or ask them to teach me, what i did was to watch meticulously their brush strokes, the colors they're using, the set of materials they have all in that half a day of staring--while kids at my age are busy playing somewhere else. I call myself a learning bystander, an onlooker who managed to save inch by inch, little by little some school money I have to buy art materials that I saw those artists are using while trying to imitate what they're doing when I got home.
